چکیده

Introduction: Giordano Bruno (GB) crater is among the youngest large lunar impact craters (22 km diameter at 36°N, 103°E (Fig. 1)). Its crisp morphology, extensive ray system, and spectral properties imply a young age (<<1 by). Spectral data [1, 2] indicate the ray material is immature having an optical maturity index, calculated from the Clementine 950/750 nm ratio [2, 3] of ~0.27. It was suggested by [4] that GB might have been historic, observed to form in 1178. The possibility that such a large impact could be of historic age makes it an important target. Additionally, because of its youth, the details of impact cratering morphology are preserved in exquisite detail. Morota et al. [5] reported an age of 1-10 Ma based on crater counts made with Terrain Camera images from the Kaguya mission. Here, we report an overall geologic analysis and crater counts derived from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) images and Diviner Lunar Radiometer Experiment data.

Age of Giordano Bruno crater as deduced from the morphology of its secondaries at the Luna 24 landing site

We undertook a photogeologic study of Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) images of the ejecta of the very young 22-km diameter crater Giordano Bruno (GB) and for the Luna 24 landing site region, where secondary craters from Giordano Bruno are observed. Using the technique of Basilevsky (1976) for estimating the absolute ages of small lunar craters based on thei...

Meteor storm evidence against the recent formation of lunar crater Giordano Bruno

525 © Meteoritical Society, 2001. Printed in USA. Abstract–It has been suggested that the formation of the 22 km diameter lunar crater Giordano Bruno was witnessed in June 1178 A.D. To date, this hypothesis has not been well tested. Such an impact on the Earth would be "civilization threatening". Previous studies have shown that the formation of Giordano Bruno would lead to the arrival of 10 mi...

A 8.2 Ma Age for the Lunar

Introduction: The 22 km ∅ crater “Giordano Bruno” is the youngest lunar crater of its size or larger [1]. The crater is located at 36N / 103E in the Th-poor lunar highlands and has a prominent ejecta ray system. According to urban ledgend formation of the Giordano Bruno crater was observed by medieval monks on June 18, 1178 A.D [2]. However, formation of a 22 km sized crater on the Moon would...

Prevalence of Restless Legs Syndrome in Iranian Patients under Hemodialysis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Study

Introduction: Recent studies have contradictory reports of the overall prevalence of restless legs syndrome in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to help eliminate ambiguity about the prevalence of restless legs syndrome in Iranian hemodialysis patients by systematic review and meta-analysis study. Methods: This study was performed based on PRISMA checklist. Documents ...
